Writing useful summaries for busy readers

Notes on making previews direct enough to help someone decide what to read next.

A summary is not a teaser. It is a small act of service. The reader should know what the piece covers, why it matters, and whether it is worth their next few minutes.

The strongest summaries use concrete nouns, plain verbs, and one clear promise. They do not need to reveal every argument, but they should not hide the subject behind mood.

When the preview does its job, the full article starts with a reader who already understands the contract.
